Train faults were behind the disruption of Sunday night's MRT services around the Pasir Ris, Tampines and Tanah Merah stations, said an SMRT spokesperson on Monday.

A west-bound train had experienced a fault between Pasir Ris and Tampines stations at around 9.50pm, and the train behind it was used to assist it to Tampines station so passengers could alight.

Both trains experienced a fault around 10.40pm while they were on the east-bound line heading towards Pasir Ris to be temporarily stationed. A bus bridging service between Tampines and Pasir Ris was brought in to assist affected passengers, said the spokesperson.

Some east-bound trains were also turned around at Tampines and Tanah Merah stations to maintain service on the west-bound line for passengers heading towards Joo Koon.
