The Government is focused on growing Singapore at a sustainable level and even while it does this, it pledged to plan ahead so that Singapore maintains a high quality of life.

Unveiling the White Paper on Population on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who oversees population matters, said the comprehensive document seeks to strike a balance in population strategy.

"Going forward, we want to make sure that the roadmap we have is an appropriate one," he said, adding that he will be seeking Parliament's endorsement of the white paper next week.

The paper has projected that Singapore's population will reach 6.9 million by 2030, and workforce growth will slow to half its current rate in the next decade.
