A Singapore student has won this year's Angus Ross prize, which is awarded to the best performing non-British candidate in the GCE A-Level English Literature examination.

Mr Darrel Chang, 19, who sat for his GCE A-Level examinations at Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), helped Singapore maintain its winning streak of the Angus Ross prize. Last year's prize was awarded jointly to two Singaporean students.

This year's runner up, Mr Edward Low, 19, is also a Singaporean student and also from HCI. The winners were selected from a pool of 11,000 entries worldwide. Mr Chang will receive a bank draft worth £100 ($191) as prize money. Both students will receive a letter of commendation.

Cambridge began awarding the prize in 1987 in honour of Dr Angus Ross who was the chairman of the A-Level English Literature examiners.
