Sichuan quake: PM Lee sends condolences to China; S'pore gives $50,000 in aid
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has written to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to convey his condolences to the people and government of China following the earthquake in Sichuan.
In his letter, Mr Lee said he was saddened by the news of the quake that struck the south-western province on Saturday.
"On behalf of the people and Government of Singapore, I offer my deepest condolences to the Government and people of China," Mr Lee wrote.
"I visited Sichuan just last September, and was deeply moved to learn first hand of the hardships that the people in Yingxiu experienced during the 2008 earthquake, and inspired by their fortitude in rebuilding their lives. It is unfortunate that another major earthquake has struck Sichuan again. Singapore stands ready to assist those affected by this tragedy.
