Singapore Airlines (SIA) will resume flights to Athens, a year after suspending services to the Greek capital.

But the reinstatement will be temporary, SIA said on Monday.

Between June and October next year, the airline will fly twice a week to Athens, to meet expected demand during the peak summer travel season. The Boeing 777-200ER flights will be operated on Mondays and Thursdays.

SIA said it took the "difficult decision" to suspend year-round services to Athens in October 2012 "after a prolonged period of challenging operating conditions".
