The Singapore Police Force reiterated on Tuesday its commitment to ensure a thorough probe into the death of an American researcher in Singapore.

The police said it is working closely with the FBI in the United States to investigate the death of Dr Shane Todd, 32, and that it will take into account any information the FBI may independently gather. The SPF will also share with FBI evidence it has obtained so far, in accordance with the laws of both countries.

Dr Todd was found hanged in his Singapore apartment in an apparent suicide last June. His parents, however, believe he was murdered over work he had done while employed at Singapore's Institute of Microelectronics (IME), which is part of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research.

A statement by the Police on Tuesday, noted that the Todd family may pose relevant questions at the Coroner's Inquiry about the investigation findings, forensic and medical reports. At this inquiry, the State Coroner will review the evidence and independently determine the cause of, and circumstances connected with Dr Todd's death.
