SBS Transit to face $400,000 penalty for NEL train disruption
THE SBS Transit will face a $400,000 financial penalty for the train service disruption that lasted for about 10 hours along the North East Line (NEL) on Mar 15.
The amount will be donated to the Public Transport Fund to help needy families with transport fares.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, the Land Transport Authority said that its investigations found that the service disruption was caused by the snapping of a pair of stainless steel wires.
The wires, which formed part of the counterweight systems, were supposed to be holding in place overhead power lines that provide electricity to the trains.
