Singapore sailors Rachel Lee and Cecilia Low beat 35 other boats to be crowned world champions of the 420 on Monday in Austria.

The pair, who also won the 2010 Asian Games gold in the same class, became the first team from Asia to win the ladies title.

Singapore's other pair of Griselda Khng and Lee Shu Xian was third while Chile's Nadja Horwitz and Sofia Middleton took silver.

It is the nation's second time winning gold since Justin Liu and Sherman Cheng took the mens' event in 2010.
