Rompin Boating Accident: Body of Singaporean angler found

The body of the Singapore angler, who went missing during a weekend boating accident in Malaysia, has been found at sea on Tuesday morning.

Mr Chen Wan Seng fell overboard when the boat he was on collided with a larger fishing trawler on Sunday.

The 47-year-old was apparently seated at the back of the boat during the collision, which took place off the waters of a port in Rompin, Pahang.

Rompin village chief Mohammad Razak Daud told The Straits Times on Tuesday morning that Mr Chen's body was found at 11am floating near the accident site, about 9km off the Tanjong Gemok jetty.

Mr Mohammad Razak, 49, who is also the chief of the fishing association in Kuala Rompin, said three boats from his association went out to sea to look for Mr Chen on Tueday morning.

Boatman Steven Chong had earlier took Mr Chen's wife, mother and three other relatives out to sea to look for him. Mr Chen's wife and mother looked distraught and declined to be interviewed.

Two other Singaporeans on the fishing trip were killed in the accident, which took place off Pulau Layak in Pahang at about 4.30pm Sunday, and another five injured.

Malaysian police said the impact of the crash killed Mr Raymond Cheng Yuen Chi, 35, and Mr Ng Eng Hua, 37, who suffered from broken ribs and punctured livers.
