A review of studies in the polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) is underway to better connect classroom lessons to the real world.
The aim is to improve graduates' job and academic prospects, and better match students' strengths and interests to a hands-on education, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said at the official opening of the new ITE Headquarters and ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio on Friday.
The review will also strengthen the institutions' role in research, innovation and enterprise, Mr Lee added.
Senior Minister of State for Education Indranee Rajah will chair the review committee, which will include industry players, education institution leaders and government officials. They aim to finish their work by next year.
Mr Lee also announced that a convention centre at the ITE campus will be named after the late Dr Tay Eng Soon, a former Senior Minister of State for Education who championed technical education.
