Record number of schools conduct Phase 2C of Primary 1 registration

Aloysius Chen, all of six years old, had a harsh lesson in rejection on Tuesday.

His parents were hoping to get him into Nan Chiau Primary in Sengkang for Primary 1 next year, but luck was not on his side.

There were 180 applicants for the 59 places available, or three applicants for every place.

Among the record 90 schools which conducted balloting on Tuesday, Nan Chiau has had to turn away the most applicants. In 2011, 87 schools held ballots.
