The Housing Board announced on Wednesday that it has won the Global Superior Achievement Award for the Punggol Waterway project, the highest honour awarded by the International Water Association (IWA) for the most outstanding project in all categories.
It is the first time an Asian country has clinched this award. The IWA Project Innovation Award was established in 2006 to recognise excellence and innovation in water engineering projects worldwide.
Besides this, Punggol Waterway also clinched the Global Grand Winner in the planning category. Thirteen prizes were given out for six different categories. The award ceremony will be held in Busan, Korea, in conjunction with the eighth IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition on Sept 19.
The Waterway is Singapore’s longest man-made waterway at 4.2km long. It functions not just as a pipeline to connect two reservoirs but is also a recreational green space for the local community with features such as a landscaped promenade, five footbridges, as well as cycling and jogging paths.
