President's Star Charity pulls in $6.23m

THE President's Star Charity raised $6.23 million through corporate and public donations last night, just short of last year's record of $6.44 million.

The 21/2-hour programme, held at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, was hosted by local celebrities Sharon Au and Soo Kui Jien. They were joined by co-host, 11-year-old Adelyn Koh from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped.

This year's concert raises funds for 55 beneficiaries, including the Down Syndrome Association Singapore, Fei Yue Family Service Centre and Pertapis Halfway House.

The public can call 1900-112-8821 to pledge a $5 donation, 1900-112-8822 for a $20 donation and 1900-112-8823 for a $100 donation. They can also visit www.sggives.org/psc2012 to donate online.
