President Tony Tan visits Civil Defence Academy

President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Tuesday, visited the Civil Defence Academy in Jalan Bahar for the first time since he was elected head of state.

He was received by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) commissioner Eric Yap, and was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean.

Dr Tan toured the academy's training facilities and viewed demonstrations of computer-controlled simulators used for fire-fighting and other rescue operations, among the latest training systems used by the SCDF.

He also received an update of the concept of operations and overseas humanitarian missions and viewed an exhibition about the SCDF.
