Power trip at Harbourfront MRT delays NEL service; thousands affected
Thousands of commuters were affected on Friday morning when a power trip at Harbourfront station delayed the entire North East Line (NEL) service.
A train was stuck at Harbourfront MRT station, due to a "power fault" at the station.
Announcements were made to inform commuters that train journeys for both directions would be prolonged by 10 to 15 minutes. The verbal announcements were made in English and Mandarin, while those shown on the screens were in English. However, some commuters had journey delays of over 15 minutes.
One commuter, who only wanted to be known as Mr Chen, said that his train stopped at every station for five to 15 minutes. As a result, the 41-year-old operations manager took about two hours to travel from Sengkang to Harbourfront for work.
