Police nab 9 in gambling den raid

Police arrested eight men and one woman in an illegal gambling den during an overnight bust, which started on Thursday night.

Officers from Bedok Police Division raided the Joo Chiat Road shophouse, which apparently doubled up as a illegal gambling den, at about 9pm.

The nine suspects nabbed for operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den during the five hour operation were aged between 29 and 65 years-old, said the police in a statement on Friday.

One of them, a 57-year-old man had allegedly rented the shophouse for the purpose of gambling, while the others are believed to have been patrons.
