Police arrest 19-year-old for robbing moneychanger of $218,000 last August

A teenager was arrested on Thursday for robbing a moneychanger of $218,000 in Woodlands on August 2 last year.

The 19-year-old was among four men who assaulted and robbed the moneychanger of bag with the money at an overhead bridge in Woodlands Avenue 5, the police said on Friday evening. They fled on two motorcycles.

The accused teenager was nabbed at Woodlands Checkpoint on Thursday night, after police managed to establish the identity of one of the robbers.

He is expected to be charged in court on Saturday for robbery with hurt. If found guilty, he can be jailed between five and 20 years, and caned up to 12 strokes.

The commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim, warned perpetrators of such crimes that the police will spare no effect in tracking them down and bringing them to justice.
