Sheba the polar bear will soon undergo a post-mortem examination to find out what was ailing her in the lead up to her death yesterday morning.

A spokesperson for Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) did not confirm when the autopsy would take place, but said this was normal procedure for all their animals.

Sheba had been struggling with loss of strength in her hind legs since September. Her condition became especially critical over the past week, as her keepers found it increasingly difficult to rouse her for feedings.

She was euthanised on humanitarian grounds, according to a statement issued by WRS yesterday night.
