PM stresses 'strong family foundations' in Facebook post

Even as the Government keeps trying to help families with housing, financial and other problems, the best solution is still to have strong family foundations, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
In a Facebook posting early on Thursday after a Meet-the-People Session in Teck Ghee, Mr Lee reflected on the importance of strong families.
"Family break-ups lead to so many other problems: housing, financial difficulties, custody of children," he wrote. "MPs do our best to help, and HDB is building more rental flats. But ultimately the family members have to work things out themselves, and ideally avoid breaking up in the first place. That's why strong families are so important."
The Prime Minister made this observation after some 114 residents turned up at his latest Meet-the-People Session on Wednesday night. "A fair share" had housing problems, he observed, and "the root cause is family break-ups".
