PM Lee gives his take on leadership renewal

VIENTIANE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday gave his assessment of the leadership renewal taking place in China and the United States, the outcome of which will have a major impact on Asia and the world.
Singapore had long-standing ties with the key players in China's likely new leadership, he said, adding that he hoped to continue to work well with them.
As for the US, much would depend on who wins the election and the new team he puts in place, he said. Whether Mr Barack Obama or Mr Mitt Romney wins, Singapore is likely to have to wait a while to see how the results affect ties with the United States.
Mr Lee said: "If it is President Obama, then, of course, there is some continuity, although even then the secretaries will be changing - new secretary of state, secretary of treasury... So they will take some time to settle down.
