The shutters will come down at the two outlets of French hypermarket Carrefour by the end of this month so that  the premises can be restored to their original state before the leases expire at the year end.

The non-food level of the Suntec City and Plaza Singapura branches selling electronics and clothes are already closed while most of the food shelves have been cleared out, following a sale last weekend.

Three weeks ago, Carrefour Singapore, which opened its first outlet here in 1997, said it was pulling out of the local market before the leases expire at Suntec in December and at Plaza Singapura in November.

It had stated that these two stores do not allow Carrefour to grow to be the market leader.
