The Permanent Secretary of the National Climate Change Secretariat in the Prime Minister's Office is stepping down after 35 years in public service.

Mr Tan Yong Soon, 57, will retire from the Administrative Service on Oct 1, the Public Service Division (PSD) said on Friday.

His position will be filled by Mr Niam Chiang Meng, 54, who will at the same time continue to be the permanent secretary in the National Population and Talent Division, which is also in the Prime Minister's Office.

Mr Tan has been instrumental in developing and strengthening Singapore's national climate change structure and capabilities, the PSD said.
