Overall crime rate in Singapore down for first six months of this year
Singapore's overall crime rate fell by 6.3 per cent from January to June this year, compared to the same period last year, said the Singapore Police Force in its half-yearly crime report.
The police handled 14,562 cases in the first half of this year, compared to 15,539 cases previously.
But two out of the six categories used as a barometer of crime here - crimes against persons and violent property crimes - have seen a rise. One worrying trend is the increase in serious hurt offences which increased by 30 cases, more of which were reported at construction sites.
The number of outrage of molestation cases, which was flagged as an area of concern in the annual crime report in February this year, went down from 701 cases to 667 cases. In particular, outrage of modesty cases on trains and buses fell by about 10 per cent.
