Over $15,000 worth of drugs seized from motorcyclist at checkpoint
A male motorcyclist was detained by authorities on Friday after Immigrations & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers found a substance suspected to be cannabis hidden in his backpack.
While carrying out random checks at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Friday morning, ICA officers became suspicious when a 31-year-old male riding a Malaysian-registered motorcycle avoided eye contact with officers.
When the officers conducted an inspection of his vehicle, the officers found nine blocks of brownish vegetable matter, suspected to be cannabis, a controlled drug. These were hidden in the raincoat pants placed in the man's backpack. The blocks weigh about 470g and is worth more than $15,000.
The man was immediately detained and, together with the seized drugs, he was handed over to Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for further investigations. He is currently being investigated for unauthorised importation of a controlled drug.
