"Super Wi-Fi" networks have been deployed in Singapore. They are named as such as they provide wireless broadband connections in places where traditional Wi-Fi technologies cannot cover because there are too many trees, or buildings or bodies of water to block or deflect signals.
The rollout in Singapore Island Country Club, Changi and the National University of Singapore is part of a trial by Microsoft, StarHub and the Institute for Infocomm Research to explore using television broadcasting spectrum to deliver commercial wireless broadband services here.
It seems that Wi-Fi is not good enough.
Now, a local group comprising StarHub, Microsoft and the Institute for Infocomm Research is mooting a new "super Wi-Fi" technology to provide wireless broadband services in remote places and to solve the crunch on 3G mobile networks.
