More than one in three households are now surfing on Singapore's ultra-fast fibre broadband network, with more users saying they are satisfied with the service, according to a survey commissioned by network builder OpenNet.
Of the 500 home broadband users polled from July to August this year, 88 per cent said they were satisfied with the service, up from 74 per cent a year ago. Video streaming caught up with e-mail as the most popular online activity this year, compared with a year ago when e-mail led in popularity.
As of Sept 30, more than 450,000 households were using OpenNet's fibre broadband services, up from 429,400 households in August and 408,500 in July.
The jump in subscriber numbers in the past few months was due to the introduction of a 200Mbps plan by M1 during the June PC Show for $39 a month, what a 100Mbps plan used to cost. The telco's 200Mbps plan during March's IT Show was at a higher promotional price of $49, while its 100Mbps plan was $39. Other service providers also caught up, with SingTel and StarHub's 200Mbps plans now at $49.90 a month. They were $59.90 and $102.93 respectively in March.
