Olympics: Schooling fails to qualify for semi-finals
LONDON - Singapore swimmer Joseph Schooling clocked 53.63 seconds in the men's 100m butterfly heats on Thursday morning, finishing third in the Heat 2 of the event.
He did not qualify for the semi-finals, or hit his personal best - the national record of 53.18 seconds set last November at the SEA Games.
All top 16 swimmers of the event clocked less than 53 seconds.
This ends the 17-year-old's maiden Olympic campaign and he will fly home to Singapore on Aug 5 to take part in the Singapore National Swimming Championships.
