NUS student killed in Kelantan mishap had drowned
National University of Singapore (NUS) undergraduate Lee Jun Jie drowned after he fell from the top of a mountain in Kelantan on Saturday.
Mr Lee's father told The Straits Times on Monday that Malaysian police had conducted a post-mortem on his son and determined that drowning caused his death.
The 23-year-old mechanical engineering student had left Singapore on a five-day trekking trip to Kelantan last Friday night. There were 23 participants in the group, mostly comprising NUS' students.
The group had arrived in Kelantan on Saturday when the incident happened at about 7pm. Mr Lee was said to be enjoying the sunset atop Mount Stong's 1,433m, seven-tiered waterfalls when he slipped and plunged into a ravine located just next to the gushing waters. His body was found by rescuers in the lake below at about 9.50am on Sunday.
