North East CDC holds job fair just for women
Six out of 10 job seekers who turn to the North East Community Development Council (CDC) are women. To help them land some work, the CDC on Saturday organised a job fair for women in a "targeted approach" which offered more than 500 positions.
"It's difficult for women to rejoin the workforce, and this is one way of providing them with opportunities," said North East CDC general manager Joel Leong.
Of the 200 women who turned up, 166 submitted job applications on the spot and another 13 signed up for a training programme on caring for the elderly at home.
Eight employers from different industries such as Cristofori Music and Eu Yan Sang participated in the programme, offering jobs such as customer service executive, retail assistant, security officer and childcare teacher. The event was jointly organised with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency.
