Senior citizens The Straits Times spoke to said that updating identity cards more often would be too troublesome

Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC, Baey Yam Keng, suggested during the Budget debate last week that identity cards be updated when Singapore residents turn 50 and 70.

The elderly felt that being required to change their IC photos at such late stages in life was an added hassle, especially since they have no trouble using their ICs which have pictures of their younger selves.

Mr Lim Pay Yong, 73, said, "My features haven’t changed, what’s the point of changing? It’s only a matter of whether you’re fatter or thinner. Tonight I might go to sleep and not wake up tomorrow so why change?"
