Singapore cannot be complacent when it comes to racial issues, said Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Chan Chun Sing.

The harmonious multi-racial society that Singapore experiences today is the exception rather than the norm, judging from the experiences globally and regionally, he added.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the National Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circles Seminar on Saturday, Mr Chan gave a summary of what was discussed during the closed-door half day event attended by 350 participants.

Besides not being complacent about racial issues, the participants also talked about responding to racial incidents in a calm and justified manner.
