The National Library Board (NLB) will host the second International Summit of the Book to discuss the future of physical books in August next year.

Singapore received the crystal book at a handover ceremony of the inaugural two-day conference in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

The event is slated to travel to different cultural capitals each year to discuss the importance of libraries and books in the preservation of cultural identities. It is also aimed at promoting thought leadership on the role and influence of books.

"Singapore is a cultural hub for the region, an oasis for a rich array of information resources that is accessible to people from around the world," said Professor Tommy Koh, Singapore's Ambassador-at-large.
