NLB gives 65,000 books to charity
More than 65,000 library books and magazines were donated to voluntary welfare organisations on Friday at the Charity Book Donation at the Singapore Expo.
Organised by the National Library Board, the event benefited around 90 charities, including welfare homes such as the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore, Asian Women’s Welfare Association family service centre, and the Jamiyah Nursing Home.
The library board said that it hopes to promote reading among those cared for in welfare homes and special needs organisations.
The public can also purchase old library books at drastically discounted prices this weekend at the Library Book sale in Singapore Expo Hall 5B. Some 300,000 books will be sold at $1 or $2 each from 9.30 am to 7 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
A wide selection of books - on subjects such as the arts, business, cooking, health, travel and others - will be on sale. Books will also be available in all four official languages, and admission is free.
