The ninth edition of Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) was launched on Sunday and promises to be the largest edition of the annual event yet.

Launched by Minister for Transport Mr Lui Tuck Yew at VivoCity, SMW 2014 will feature 29 events from April 6 to 11 organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), as well as local and international maritime participants. Last year's event showcased 25 events.

Over 100,000 visitors have also viewed the Singapore Maritime Week exhibition since it began at VivoCity last week, evidence of the MPA's push towards raising awareness of the variety of maritime jobs available here.

Besides industry events and the public exhibition, SMW 2014 will also see the launch of Singapore's first maritime trail on Friday, It will include landmarks such as Boat Quay, Clifford Pier and even the Fort Canning Lighthouse, which harks back to when Singapore was an entrepot trading post some 200 years ago.
