NHB launches enhanced heritage trail at Jalan Besar
New World cabaret dancers, Singapore's first football stadium and the former Victoria school - these are just some of the memories of Jalan Besar that visitors may recall on the enhanced Jalan Besar Community Heritage Trail launched by the National Heritage Board (NHB) on Saturday.
The enhanced trail features four new heritage sites in the district, which include Syed Alwi road, the former Victoria school (now the People's Association headquarters) and the Holy Trinity Church. Jalan Besar was one of the first heritage trails launched by the NHB in 2006.
Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, attended the launch at the City Square Mall on Saturday.
Apart from the launch of the heritage trail, the NHB plans to introduce new heritage trails in Kampong Glam, Tiong Bahru and Jurong in the coming months.
