New drop-in programme for disabled allows caregivers to take a break
Caregivers of those with disabilities can enjoy some time off with a new drop-in programme that was launched on Wednesday.
The initiative at two Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities Senior Activities Centres in Telok Blangah and Ang Mo Kio is open to those above 16 years old, with physical or intellectual disabilities. Caregivers can drop them off at the centres for up to three hours a day and three days a week.
This is part of the Enabling Masterplan 2012-2016, which charts the development of programmes and services for the disabled here.
Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing said the drop-in disability programme facilitates social engagement and community integration of persons with disabilities. He added that it also helps caregivers by allowing them to take a break from those they are caring for.
