New community farm opens at Clementi

A Clementi patch of land once farmed illegally by residents is now an official community farm.

The farm, behind Block 305 Clementi Avenue 4 in the Bukit Timah division of Holland-Bukit Timah, was officially opened by Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and grassroots advisor Sim Ann this morning.

Last year, illicit farming drew residents' complaints of burning leaves and mosquito breeding, and the farmers were asked to go.

The Bukit Timah grassroots network stepped in to work with residents and farmers, coming up with a plan to rent the land from the State on a yearly basis for community farming.
