Muslims gathered at mosques islandwide for the annual Hari Raya Haji prayers today.

Minister for Information, Communication and the Arts Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, who is also Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs, was at Petempatan Melayu Sembawang Mosque to attend prayers and distribute Korban meat.

The Korban ritual involves the slaughter of sheep on Hari Raya Haji.

The rituals almost did not take place this year due to new regulations, implemented by the Australian government requiring foreign livestock importers to meet internationally accepted animal welfare standards.
