Police have arrested the driver of car which crashed through Woodlands Checkpoint on Saturday afternoon.

At about 4.05pm, a Singapore-registered Mercedes-Benz arriving from Malaysia deliberately drove off while undergoing customs checks, injuring an officer who attempted to stop the man from leaving. The vehicle then crashed through the security barrier that was activated and entered Singapore.

The driver had already cleared the immigration check.

All police resources on the ground were alerted and a message was sent to all taxi drivers to look out for the gold-coloured Mercedes Benz.

Police recovered the car at 8.30pm and later arrested a 65-year-old man.

He is being investigated for various offences, including evasion of customs checks and vandalism.
