MORE Singaporeans and private clinics have signed up for the Community Health Assist Scheme (Chas) since it was enhanced in January, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong in Parliament on Monday.
There are now 794 private general practices and dental clinics taking part in the scheme, an increase of about 20 per cent since January. Over 220,000 Singaporeans now hold the Chas card, a seven-fold increase from a year ago.
The ministry is also looking into the spread of Chas clinics across the island so that there are sufficient private clinics to serve each constituency, said Mr Gan.
Chas allows people aged 40 and above who live in a household with a monthly income of no more than $1,500 per head to receive subsidised care at private general practices and dental clinics. The qualifying age limit and income level of the scheme - previously known as the Primary Care Partnership Scheme - were revised in January to allow more people to benefit.
