More careful driving in school zones with enhanced road safety initiatives: Faishal
Motorists are driving more carefully in school zones with enhanced road safety measures, said Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Dr Faishal said he visited several school zones in Yishun to observe travelling behaviour. He also went to Shuqun Primary School in Jurong West to take a look at how motorists and students were adjusting to the new road safety measures, which include warning markings and road dividers.
"I noticed that quite a number of motorists were driving more carefully in these zones and were on the lookout for the safety of the children crossing the roads," he wrote. He added that the principal and staff of Shuqun Primary shared that the enhanced road safety initiatives have improved the safety for its pupils and parents.
In November last year, the Land Transport Authority announced that a pilot of six road safety initiatives at 10 primary schools, including Shuqun. This includes warning markings and lowering the speed limit on roads outside the schools to 40kmh during school hours. The measures, to be extended to other schools progressively, came after a review on road safety in school zones
