More than 4000 jobs are available at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) 2014 Career Fair, with a record 223 organisations participating.
The annual career fair, which began on Tuesday and will be held over three days for the first time, will see 57 organisations taking part for the first time such as DBS, Unilever Asia, Sanyo Denki and Starhub. NTU expects 9000 of its students to visit the fair each day.
Ms Leeann Chew, human resource manager at oil and gas services company Aibel Singapore, said the fair is "a platform for brand promotion to attract new students (to join Aibel)". Mr Heiko Kersten, director of operations at Oldendorff Carriers said the fair allows the shipping company to "see students face to face and filter out suitable candidates for employment".
Among the NTU students who were exploring the jobs on offer at the fair was Ms Jennifer Xie, 24, who said that this year's fair is more structured. "It allows me to better understand the industries and gives me a platform to build rapport, obtain information and gain employment opportunities," said the banking and finance student. Ms Koh Wen Ying, a 23-year-old mathematics and economics student, said: "It's a good opportunity to see what the companies offer, how they operate and what their culture is like."
