Practical ideas to solve the problems of Housing Board dwellers - such as hanging wet laundry - can become "innovative solutions with commercial potential", said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Saturday morning.

He was speaking at an award ceremony for an ideas competition, which took in ideas from the community to make public housing living more convenient.

Among the winning solutions were a mobile staircase, which shifts into a ramp for wheelchair users when someone steps on it, and a swing rack to let residents load and unload the laundry pole from the safety of their kitchen.

The Housing Board is also working with Spring Singapore to see how some of the ideas could be further developed through existing schemes.
