Mendaki gave out record $1.87m in education trust fund this year

About 180 students received their Education Trust Fund vouchers and bursaries from self-help group Mendaki this morning.

This brings the total amount disbursed to more than 7,000 students in 2012, to $1.87 million, the highest amount given out to date.

More than $8 million has been disbursed from the fund, set up to uplift the education of Malay-Muslim children from low-income families, since its establishment in 2003.

Students today received their cheques and vouchers at from Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information, Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs and Advisor to the Education Trust Fund Committee
