Evening traffic on the new Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) appeared smooth in both directions at 6.30pm on Monday, the first work day after the new expressway opened.

The Straits Times found that traffic westbound on the MCE towards the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) moved steadily along, although there was slight congestion at the Central Boulevard exit.

Eastbound traffic on the MCE was also moved along effortlessly except for some motorists experiencing congestion as they tried to make their way from the city to the MCE to head towards the East Coast Parkway. A Land Transport Authority emergency vehicle was seen waiting in the tunnel to assist with any accidents or breakdowns.

Motorists experienced heavy traffic and jams on the MCE on Monday morning with many complaining about poor signage and having too few lanes to filter into.
