A company director, initially sentenced to a month's jail for hitting a taxi driver with a steel rod, has had his jail term cut to five days on appeal.

Zhai Lu, 42, a Chinese national, boarded the taxi driven by 60-year-old Mr Teo Siang Toh in May 2010.

He placed some metal rods and bars he was carrying in the boot.

Things got off to a bad start when Zhai could not clearly state where he wanted to go.
