A 30-year-old man was charged today with cheating a goldsmith shop of two gold chains worth $20,200.

Teo Ziqi allegedly duped the sales manager of Boon Lay Goldsmith and Jewellers at Boon Lay Shopping Centre into believing that the Standard Chartered Bank debit card he presented could be used to pay for the gold items when he knew that there were not enough funds in his account on Oct 26.

He is remanded for a week for further investigation.

Police said in a statement on Wednesday that Teo is believed to be involved in cheating several merchants of more than $1 million worth of merchandise.
