Man arrested for cheating elderly victims by claiming to be from charity
A 55-year old man has been arrested in connection with several cheating cases involving elderly victims.
From April to August this year, four cases of cheating were reported by elderly victims. Each case involved a male suspect who claimed to be a representative from a charitable or community organisation. The suspect offered to obtain monetary assistance on behalf of the victim, in return for an upfront payment. However, after receiving the payment, the suspect became uncontactable.
The identity of this man was subsequently established, and he was arrested in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 on Thursday at about 8.30am.
The offence of cheating carries a punishment of up to 10 years imprisonment, and a fine.
