Man arrested for causing nuisance, assaulting staff of a mall in Little India

Police have arrested a 22-year-old male for causing nuisance and assaulting the staff of a major shopping mall along Syed Alwi Road in Little India.

The visit pass holder believed to be from Pakistan was spotted by the police at 8.38am on Saturday after the latter responded to a call from the public. The suspect appeared drunk and was unable to provide an account of his presence, said the police in a statement today.

The police found that he had earlier been told to leave the mall believed to be Mustafa Centre, but he kicked up a fuss, refused to leave and even assaulted a staff at the mall.

The suspect will be charged in Court tomorrow for, among other things, drunk behaviour and for disturbing public order and may face of maximum fine of $1,000, or a jail term of one month. He will also be charged for causing hurt and may face a jail term of up to two years, or fine of up to $5,000, or both.
