The ATM, located at Block 283 in Bukit Batok Avenue 3, had been damaged during a break-in attempt the previous night. However, nothing was stolen as the safe where the money was kept was highly reinforced. A security camera had also been covered with tape, in an attempt to prevent it from recording the robbery attempt. However, the thief had missed out on other cameras inside the ATM, leaving them free to record his image. Police arrested a man on Thursday, for attempted theft from an automated teller machine (ATM) in Bukit Batok East Ave 3.

Officers from Jurong Police Division managed to identify the suspect with the CCTV images from the OCBC Bank ATM and other evidence gathered at the scene, said the police in a statement on Friday.

They were first informed on Dec 10, at about 7.30am, that the external cover of the ATM was found open and two surveillance cameras were covered with masking tape.

No cash was missing from the machine but preliminary investigations showed that an unknown male had tampered with the machine on Dec 9 and 10.
